Instrument guide

What each instrument is for.

Eastking supports application preparation and coordination for trade-finance requests. The exact instrument wording, eligibility, terms and requirements depend on the transaction and the licensed bank’s review.

LC

A commercial letter of credit may link payment to presentation of documents that meet the terms set out in the instrument.

DLC

A documentary letter of credit is also document-based. Banks and transactions may use LC and DLC terminology differently, so we follow the wording used by the relevant bank.

SBLC

A standby letter of credit may provide recourse if the stated conditions are met. Its effect depends on the exact wording and the bank’s terms.

BG

A bank guarantee is an undertaking issued by a bank in favour of a beneficiary, subject to its stated terms and conditions.

POF

Proof of funds is documentation used to evidence funds for a transaction. The source and verification must be confirmed with the institution providing it.

APG

An advance payment guarantee may protect a buyer’s advance payment under the conditions set out in the guarantee.

PG

A performance guarantee may provide recourse in relation to specified contractual obligations, subject to the instrument’s terms.

Eastking is a trade-finance consultancy firm, not a bank or issuer. The licensed bank independently conducts due diligence and decides whether to approve, issue or authenticate any instrument. No approval or issuance is guaranteed.

Trade finance and risk

Understanding trade-finance protection.

Trade finance can help businesses manage some of the risks involved in international trade. When properly structured, letters of credit can link payment to the presentation of documents that meet the stated terms, while standby letters of credit and bank guarantees may provide conditional recourse if an agreed obligation is not met.

Their protection depends on the wording, the parties’ performance and the bank’s terms; they do not remove commercial, delivery or market risk. Eastking helps clients prepare and coordinate applications, while the licensed issuing bank independently reviews and decides each request.

Guarantees explained

Bank guarantees and their benefits

A bank guarantee is a written undertaking by a bank to pay a beneficiary if the applicant fails to meet a stated obligation, subject to the guarantee’s wording, a compliant demand and the issuing bank’s terms. It may help counterparties participate in a tender or contract with greater confidence, and it can provide conditional recourse if a covered obligation is not met.

Common types include:

  • Bid or tender guarantee: may support a bid by protecting the buyer if the successful bidder fails to proceed as agreed.
  • Performance guarantee: may provide recourse if a supplier or contractor fails a specified contractual obligation.
  • Advance payment guarantee (APG): may protect a buyer’s advance payment if the supplier fails to meet the stated conditions for repayment.
  • Payment guarantee (PG): may provide recourse if the applicant fails to pay a covered amount.

These instruments do not provide automatic payment or remove delivery, commercial or market risk. Each guarantee’s wording, demand requirements, expiry, fees, collateral or facility conditions are set or reviewed by the issuing bank. Eastking supports application preparation and coordination; it is not a bank or issuer. The licensed bank independently conducts due diligence and decides whether to approve and issue any guarantee.
